Introduction:
Connecting an existing domain to your online store allows you to use a personalized URL, which builds brand identity and trust with your customers. This guide will walk you through the process of connecting a domain you already own to your store.
Description:
Using a default URL instead of a custom domain can make your store less recognizable. Connecting your custom domain will make it easier for customers to find your store, improving traffic and brand recognition.
Solution Steps:
Step 1: Access Domain Settings
- Navigate to Settings: From your dashboard, click on Settings located on the left-hand sidebar.
- In the Settings menu, select Domain, SSL & DNS to open the domain configuration section.
Step 2: Add an Existing Domain
- In the Domain, SSL & DNS section, click on Add New Domain. This will open a dialog box with options for adding a domain.
- Select Add Existing Domain. In the text box provided, enter the domain name you own .g., cloudcart.com), and then click Save to proceed.
Step 3: Activate the Domain
- After saving your existing domain, you need to activate it. You will see two options for activation:
Option 1: Complete Domain Management and DDoS Protection (Recommended) – This option allows you to manage DNS records directly through your store’s admin panel and provides full protection from DDoS attacks.
Option 2: Domain Management via CNAME – This option requires you to configure DNS records manually and does not offer DDoS protection. This option is not recommended.
Add Screenshot 5 showing the Activate Domain screen with the two options (DNS management and CNAME management):
- Select Enable DNS Record Management for the recommended option. Follow the instructions to update your domain’s nameservers to complete the activation process.
